After 15 km of riding from the shop, we will take scenic countryside back-roads featuring lush green views. Enjoy exciting off-road riding near Xuan Son National Park and cross beautiful green tea plantations. We will conclude the first day around 4:30 pm in Phu Yen, a quaint town in the green valley of Son La province, acting as a gateway to the mountainous regions of Northwest Vietnam.
DAY 2: PHU YEN – NGHIA LO – MU CANG CHAI - 180 KM
Today is a highlight of the North Vietnam motorcycle tour. The ride features some of the most scenic roads and longest and highest mountain passes, providing ample photo opportunities. We will pass through Tu Le and Mu Cang Chai, remote lands in Yen Bai province known for stunning rice terraces created by the Black Hmong, Dzao, and Thai people. These untouched areas, yet to be famous among tourists, offer incredible natural beauty. Overnight in a hotel in Mu Cang Chai town.
Today's ride ascends to the "roof of Indochina." Besides riding on scenic tracks after Mu Cang Chai and crossing large green tea plantations in Than Uyen, we will traverse the O Qui Ho Pass, one of North Vietnam's highest and most beautiful mountain passes. This 50 km pass crosses the Hoang Lien Mountain range, offering views of Fanxipan, the highest mountain in Indochina. Expect breathtaking pictures from heights of around 2000 meters above sea level. Arrive in Sapa town by beer o'clock.
After breakfast, continue the epic ride, crossing mountain passes with amazing views of rice terraces and hill tribe villages. We will ride along the Chinese border after Lao Cai. Enjoy a winding back-road journey through rural villages along Thac Ba Lake in the afternoon. Today's motorbike trip offers a different perspective from previous days, showcasing lovely villages with beautiful rice fields between palm tree hills. We will end the day in a Dzao village, staying overnight and enjoying a boat trip around the beautiful Thac Ba Lake.
After bidding farewell to the host, the Vietnam Motorbike Tour Expert guide team will lead you back to Hanoi via our exclusive routes to avoid busy highways. Depending on your preference, we can include more off-road fun right after leaving the homestay, crossing green tea plantations, or passing through villages of the friendly Dzao people. The final 20 km into Hanoi will be a slow ride with other local scooters/vehicles, concluding the tour around 4:00 pm in the city center.

How far in advance should I book a motorbike tour?
We recommend booking your motorbike tour as early as possible. Although there is no strict deadline for booking, our tours can fill up quickly due to high demand and limited availability of bikes and guides. Most travelers book their tours 3 to 6 months in advance to ensure availability. Booking early helps us arrange everything to provide you with the best possible experience.
Do I need an international license to drive a motorbike in Vietnam?
Yes, an international driving permit (IDP) along with your home country's driver's license is required to drive a motorbike legally in Vietnam, especially in areas like the Ha Giang Loop where enforcement is strict, and fines can be imposed for not having an IDP. In Southern and Central Vietnam, although an IDP is still legally required, enforcement may be more lenient, and it is possible to drive without encountering problems. However, it is always safer and more prudent to have an IDP to ensure compliance with local laws and for insurance purposes. Many travel insurance policies require a Vietnamese motorbike license for coverage, so it's crucial to check the specifics of your insurance plan before your trip.
What should I bring for the motorbike tour, and how will my bags be handled?
For your motorbike tour, it's essential to pack appropriately to ensure comfort and preparedness. You should bring:
Vietnam Motorbike Tours provides helmets and protection pads, but personal fit and comfort with your gear can enhance the experience. Regarding luggage, unnecessary bags or suitcases can be stored safely at our bike store or tight on the back of the bikes during the tour. For longer tours like the Ho Chi Minh trail or tours starting and ending in different locations, we offer a luggage transport service from the start to the end point at an affordable rate.
How is traffic in Vietnam, and what can I expect during the tour?
Traffic in Vietnam is often described by foreigners as "busy," "crazy," and "amazing," where motorbikes and scooters dominate the roads. There's a unique flow to it that might seem like there are no rules, but locals navigate it skillfully. During our Vietnam Motorbike Tours, you'll be guided by experienced local riders familiar with the traffic patterns and will provide safety tips for navigating the roads. To ensure your safety, we prefer less crowded routes and avoid major busy roads whenever possible.
