We depart Hanoi at 8:30 AM, quickly leaving the bustling city behind the peaceful countryside roads. Within the first hour, we’re cruising through rural villages and rice fields, surrounded by rolling hills. Lunch is in Yen Lac, Hoa Binh Province. The afternoon’s route, featuring scenic mountain backroads, takes us to Mai Chau by 5:00 PM. We’ll enjoy a warm homestay experience with the local Thai people.
After breakfast, we have time to explore Mai Chau's traditional Thai village before continuing our journey. Riding up to the highlands, we pass through Mong villages and onto the scenic Hua Tat Pass, an old French-built road offering stunning mountain views. After lunch in Moc Chau, we ride along the Da River to Phu Yen, where we’ll spend the night. Expect breathtaking riverside views and mountain roads.
We start early with a local breakfast at 7:30 AM, ready for a day of beautiful mountain passes and winding roads. Our route takes us through villages of the Hmong, Thai, and Dzao communities, with stops for photos and interaction. By late afternoon, we arrive in Than Uyen, where we’ll unwind at a local hotel.
Today’s ride to Sapa is short but packed with stunning scenery. We begin with a mix of off-road trails and tea plantations, gradually ascending the O Quy Ho Pass—one of the most spectacular passes in northern Vietnam. After arriving in Sapa for lunch, we’ll check in, and then take a scenic ride along Muong Hoa Valley, famed for its terraced fields and traditional villages.
We set off from Sapa at 8:00 AM, taking lesser-known mountain roads past ethnic villages and lush terraced fields, eventually reaching Lao Cai, a bustling border town with views into China. After a short break, we head towards Thac Ba Lake via scenic backroads. Arriving by late afternoon, we’ll have the option of a relaxing boat trip on the lake’s tranquil waters.
On the final day, we take a peaceful route back to Hanoi, steering clear of major highways. For those interested, we can add a brief off-road detour through tea plantations before the last stretch back into the city. As we approach Hanoi, we’ll join the bustling local traffic for a lively end to our adventure. Expect to be back in the city around 4:00 PM.

How far in advance should I book a motorbike tour?
We recommend booking your motorbike tour as early as possible. Although there is no strict deadline for booking, our tours can fill up quickly due to high demand and limited availability of bikes and guides. Most travelers book their tours 3 to 6 months in advance to ensure availability. Booking early helps us arrange everything to provide you with the best possible experience.
Do I need an international license to drive a motorbike in Vietnam?
Yes, an international driving permit (IDP) along with your home country's driver's license is required to drive a motorbike legally in Vietnam, especially in areas like the Ha Giang Loop where enforcement is strict, and fines can be imposed for not having an IDP. In Southern and Central Vietnam, although an IDP is still legally required, enforcement may be more lenient, and it is possible to drive without encountering problems. However, it is always safer and more prudent to have an IDP to ensure compliance with local laws and for insurance purposes. Many travel insurance policies require a Vietnamese motorbike license for coverage, so it's crucial to check the specifics of your insurance plan before your trip.
What should I bring for the motorbike tour, and how will my bags be handled?
For your motorbike tour, it's essential to pack appropriately to ensure comfort and preparedness. You should bring:
Vietnam Motorbike Tours provides helmets and protection pads, but personal fit and comfort with your gear can enhance the experience. Regarding luggage, unnecessary bags or suitcases can be stored safely at our bike store or tight on the back of the bikes during the tour. For longer tours like the Ho Chi Minh trail or tours starting and ending in different locations, we offer a luggage transport service from the start to the end point at an affordable rate.
How is traffic in Vietnam, and what can I expect during the tour?
Traffic in Vietnam is often described by foreigners as "busy," "crazy," and "amazing," where motorbikes and scooters dominate the roads. There's a unique flow to it that might seem like there are no rules, but locals navigate it skillfully. During our Vietnam Motorbike Tours, you'll be guided by experienced local riders familiar with the traffic patterns and will provide safety tips for navigating the roads. To ensure your safety, we prefer less crowded routes and avoid major busy roads whenever possible.
